Discussing Our Set Up and Occupations

In today's lesson we were discussing the what geographical features we need, we decided on a valley, a large section of farmland, a beach surrounding the whole island, and a few hills. We were also discussing the natural resource management systems such as sewage, water purification and electricity systems and plants and where we would like to put them. If we put them by the town then the people would be unhappy because of the smell of sewage and the sounds from the electricity and water plants would keep them up at night. We have chosen to have the city on one side and the natural resource systems on the other.
We have also been in discussion of what sort of education we need so we have decided to have a child care, a school and a training centre for when the students are ready to get a job. All people that live on the island are expected to work unless they are pregnant, elderly, injured, disabled, too young or have young children.
We also spoke of the different religions celebrated by our people. They will celebrate a different attribute each month.

The beginning

One of our first major assessments in HASS (humanities and social sciences) is to design the perfect society, a Utopia - the perfect city or place. Some of the tasks that we are required to do are develop plans/diagrams/models, provide explanations, identify and overcome challenges, document progress and obviously blog it. So far we have come up with a location for our perfect island (underneath Australia but above Tasmania) by having our island here it will have warm to normal temperature with enough rain to suffice, we have also come up with a name 'Perfectus Orbis' meaning the perfect world and we have discussed the different jobs, buildings and activities we will need. We haven’t reached any problems yet but we are still in discussion of what we need to have an amazing island.
